Recent Photos From Lefkonico

On 21 January 2000 Mr. George Nicolas Hajiyianni of Melbourne, Australia, Mrs. Andriane Vassili Katsifli of London, England and Mrs. Androniki Christoforou Veoukas of Florida, USA, will file applications to the ECHR in Strasbourg France against Turkey. 

These applications relate to their properties at Lefkonico Village (their birthplace) which since August 1974 are inaccessible because of the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces.  Actually their properties now form part of the Military airport “GECITKALE” constructed by the Turkish Army in 1986. 

These people have not been able for the past 25 years to peacefully enjoy their properties which were used for agricultural purposes prior to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. 

The applications rely on the principles propounded by the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in the Loizidou v. Turkey case and which hold Turkey responsible for Human Rights violations in the area of Cyprus under its military control. 

The above mentioned applications have been coordinated by ENOSIS LEFKONITSATON ANGLIAS which is the association of expatriates of Lefkonico residing in the UK and which has been established in 1970. 

The lawyers handling the cases are Achilleas Demetriades of Nicosia and Nicolas Angelides of Lefkonico.
